Bowen Therapy

The Bowen Technique is a holistic remedial therapy based on the work of Australian Tom Bowen, and was brought over to the UK in 1993. It is fast becoming one of the most popular alternative therapies within the UK. The Bowen practitioner uses sequences of gentle, precise moves over muscles, tendons and soft tissue, interspersed with periods - a few minutes - of rest, during which the therapist leaves the room. The break, a key element of Bowen, and a defining aspect of the technique, allows the client to rest whilst the brain and body respond to the treatment received. This initiates the healing process.

Acute injury may be resolved with 1-3 treatments, whilst chronic conditions may need several sessions. Treatment at regular intervals can help manage stress, and encourage health maintenance.

The entire treatment usually lasts between 45 minutes and one hour, generally performed through light clothing. Bowen is suitable for men, women and children of all ages, and levels of fitness - a baby with colic or an elderly person with arthritis will both benefit from Bowen Therapy.

Bowen is a very effective treatment for an astonishingly wide range of conditions; more common ailments that respond well to the Bowen technique include back, neck and knee pain, migraine, sports injuries, frozen shoulder, carpel tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, chronic fatigue, hayfever, asthma and kidney problems.
